You need to be able to rotate the blade both forward and backwards. I turn it backwards for light snows and drag the back edge of the blade on the gravel drives so it doesn't cut into the gravel to bad.I also use it backwards to shove snow into piles back out of the way. If you are trying to clear a big area not real deep put it forwards at a slight angle it will roll it out of the way to the side.If real deep snow better off with a front blade so you are not trying to drive over it and can get traction.

I plowed a lot of snow when I was a teenager using a Cockshutt 20 with a 6 ft blade on the back. Worked great but don't think I would want to now though. A blade on the front is a lot easier on the neck.

I use a back blade but usually use it going foreward with blade at an angle. You want to plow a wide area so when the next snow comes you won't be trying to move the previously moved, now frozen show bank. I have a loader on the front of my tractor with a wide bucket so if we have lots of snow I can pile it out of the way. A blade mounted on the front, especially if it could be angled would be neat but I use the bucket to feed cows also.

I almost always plow som going forward and with the blade at an angle. that way I can plow faster to trow the snow off to the side. In deep snow the snow will start to pile up on my rear wheels. I fixed that by adding a plow off of a pickup truck to the front of my tractor also. Any time you push backwards with a 3 point blade you are putting a lot of stress on the balde and the tractor.

My dad broke the center link mount on our 801 ford doing that, and at $350 to fix it that was the end of that. That was also about 15 years ago.

I use a rear blade all the time for snow but we mostly only get 6-12 inches at a time. I find pushing backwards my neck kills me watching where I go. I also found that if you hit a frozen in rock ect you can bend the blade or mess up the 3 point due the blade digging in instead of skipping over it most of the time. I don't realy turn the blade to push it back cause it will move the snow anyway. I do that to get it off areas I can't pull it off. I would like a front blade but do not have a front end loader. Been useing the rear blade here for 8+ years so far and happy with it. Mark H.

It's sort of hard on the neck, turning your head to see what's happening.
You can rotate the blade to act when you going forward and then you're driving over the snow before the plow hits it. In any case, it's better than shoveling.
