I was wondering what the going rate was for tractor hauling in the Midwest?
And do you have any recommendations?
Thanks

Heck why get greedy.....I've hauled for less than $.50 a mile if it's not too far out of my way and I am headed that direction anyways....I look at it this way - I could be running empty and paying for my own fuel. Last summer I hauled a load from WA to NY for $700....customer was happy and I got my fuel paid for.

You have to use the hauling schedule and find a backhaul to get a decent rate.

Even though you feel noble about hauling for .50 per mile you are still losing your shirt, wear and tear your time fuel and insurance cost a lot more than .50 per mile. And all it would take is one mistake and you could be paying for years, but asking for 1-1.50 per loaded mile is not greedy to me just plain smart, if not nobody would be in business long.

I didn't say that I was hauling for a living.

I'm talking about these guys that sell on Ebay and those that pretend to do you a favor on the hauling schedule.

If I make that "one mistake", charging 3 times more won't mean diddly squat anyway.

As far as wear and tear and insurance, that was negligable as I was already headed that way. Insurance cost $29. I'd call it a smart move myself....it saved both of us money.

I ran over road for some years, and with todays costs.50 would barely cover fuel and your time, and that mistake I noted should have been accident if you don't have commerical insurance you could be stuck holding the entire bill. And those guys on the hauling board are doing people a favor and they are in it for the money that is american as apple pie. But it's your truck do what you want but when you wear that truck out you will wished you would have charged a little more to cover replacment costs.

I agree completely with Indy, watch any price below that and I would expect to a little to a lot more. I wont touch a haul for less than $2/ loaded mile.

Expect to pay between $1.25 and $1.50 a "loaded mile". Be cautious of any cheaper prices. I'm not saying you won't find ANY better prices from a safe hauler, but they aren't going to be around long at lower rates.

Look on the hauling schedule to the left under "community". There are a number of fair, competent haulers listed there. Good luck. John
