I have a chance to purchase a sickle mower for my Massey Harris Pony and have a few questions. Is the mower able to cut banks at about maybe 30 degrees? I realize the Mower was originally used to cut hay but I have a bank alongside a lane and was hoping maybe to use it on that. Also, Ive been looking all over for a picture or something to show how it mounts to the tractor. My tractor has hydraulics and a pto so there shouldnt be any mounting problems. Any info that you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks very much!!

I had a Pony with a side-mounted mower 50 years ago. I never tried to mow banks with it, but I don't think it can. The end of the cutterbar doesn't lift very high with the hydraulics. Keep your fingers out of the way when you lift it for transport and keep your shoulder and ear off the muffler when you're hooking it up there. I think the scar on my shoulder is still there. lol

It takes a while to mount it. I used to leave it on til it was time to plow snow. Sidemount leaves the drawbar available to rake, etc. It hangs under the tractor driven by v-belt from the pto. The shaft extends toward the front with the pitman going across to the cutterbar in front of the right rear tire. HTH
