1466 with big problems

Bought a '76 1466 last week. It has no steering, brakes, T/A, which would leave me to beleave that the MCV/pump is out, but the PTO does not work either (was rebuilt while still owned by previous owner). Some say the two problems are connected to that MCV and/or front pump, some say that is two very different problems. I don't hear any chattering or grinding that would be from stripped out splines on the Pressure plate/pump drive shaft. Any help would be appriciated,

Thanks
Erik

Does the hitch and/or remotes work? Does it move in TA? If the sprag in the TA is good, it should drive in TA with or without MCV oil. The hitch/remote pump is independent of both the PTO pump and MCV pump.

The other posts are on the right track, hub/rivets/spline.Its the high suspect when you have all those problems together, been there. Especially if the PTO's seen high horse/use.Pull the top link mtg off the rear & see if the long shaft, front to rear,it runs the PTO, spins when the engine runs.If it doesn't or just 'idles',get the jacks out.You might be able to take the bottom cluth cover off and see/feel the hub-ENGINE OFF- but there's not alot of room,or get pieces & metal. Let us know.

I think Bob is on the right track, also check the splined hub that is rivited to the clutch pressure plate cover, that's a common failure.

Eric,

Do you have manual steering? Does the main clutch work? Does the hitch lift? Is the hydraulic lite on?

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but what I'm getting at, is there any oil in the belly of the ol' gal?

Allan

The splines on the live shaft can be very quiet when stripped (as in no noise at all). I would certainly suspect stripped splines first, as the PTO has it's own pump, and would not be affected be a pump malfunction farther up front.
