Dunno what happened but just sent a post from the Ford Forum and had no double posting or sending problems and no quotation marks instead of the appostrophy.

The other thing I noticed is that the "password recognizing cookie" is working as I didn't have to put my password in to ship the message.

Hope you have it fixed.

Thanks,

Mark

anyone that comes on can post under any name they want as long as it is not a "reserved name"
I know cuz i just did it and didn't need a pasword.

I am more interested in the password names. Seams every day some one is saying they lost or can not use their name.

1) Is it that we are still going through the process of every one getting a unique name because one BOB has saved that name for himself and locked it out to the other Bob"s.
OR
2) Is it that we have a hacker that is hacking the system and using someone else’s name to stir the pot.
Or
3) maybe both

John,

The problem isn't with someone reserving a short name like "Bob" or "John". The problem is that when you reserve a name with spaces in it, you are actually just reserving the first part of the name. So if you've reserved "John in LA", you actually just reserved "John". That means someone else can't reserve "John", "John Smith", or "John in Lower Alabama".

How do I know? Because I found that I could no longer use my handle "MarkB". I thought that someone was messing around with me until I looked into it and found that there's another poster to the N-board using the handle "MarkB 2N MS". So now I'm "MarkB_MI".

Mark and Bob;
I see you all think it is just the fact that some one has beaten another to a common name and they are now upset. Well I say to bad. I agree the early bird gets the worm and you can just come up with a different name. I do not mind that and I have even changed my name in the past before passwords even came along just so I could be me and not some one else by mistake.

I do not mind taking the blame if I say something incorrect and do not want to hide behind the fact that their are 20 people with the name John if I do. Some one corrects me and we both learn. Dang no one is perfect.

I was thinking that it was like I have the name Dummy and it is password protected. Now who else wants this name?? No one. But I come on one day and now my password has been changed and I can no longer post with the name Dummy. So what do I do... I look around and see someone else stirring the pot and using the name Dummy and every one thinks it is me. That is childish.

So I hope you all are right and I am wrong but I just thought I would ask.

John,

My "reserving" the name "Bob" seems to have distressed a few people, but I can't understand why this is any different than the use of any other name. Reserving a simple name such as Bob would not "lock out" someone else from using "bob", "BOB", "BoB", "Bob1", "BobX", "BobY","BobZ", etc., ad nauseum. I have posted for about 3 years on these boards using that name, and I don't know why I should have any less, or more, for that matter, right to use that name than anyone else. It's just another case in life where the early bird gets the worm!

Just how did you reserve 'Bob' anyway?

Just pick a name that is not already reserved, and post using it. When the box comes up asking if this is your regular "handle", and do you want to set a password, just fill it out and post.

I believe it is security level settings with allowing cookies. Norton & Mcafee change these settings on you at times without one realizing it.... The Mac where we allow cookies has no problem at all, ever. The PC where I have to keep things pretty tight to keep out 1/2 of the junk that comes in has a lot of issues with this password cookie. I"m just guessing tho.

I am not talking about the fact that cookies will not see my password and I may need to enter it every time I post.

I am talking about the fact that some one has a name that is not very common but they post a lot to try to help others. Then one day they try to post and they can not using their name as someone has it locked out. I think they may have allready had a password on it but I do not know for sure; and some one has hacked their password to post under their name. (I assume) They have to get Kim to unlock their name and give them a new password.

This is a great site where I get to talk to freinds and also get to help others with their tractor ect or vise versa. It would be a shame that some child brain would ruin that for the rest of us.
Or am I reading this wrong ????? ????? ??
