My Diesel B-414 twisted two rod bearings on the crank. I am thinking that I can probably find an intact motor for less than a rebuild. Any advice?

I dont even know if I can find a crank for that old girl. How about reputable salvage yard suggestions?

Is the crank salvageable ? If so it might be best to do a rebuild, that way you know what you have, vs buying a used motor of unknown qulaity that might do the same thing in not too many hours.
Parts for B series can be a bit difficult to find from aftermarket suppliers, but the internal rebuild parts should be available.

I am able to feel the scaring on the crank by running a finger nail over it. Probably this can be welded in and turned and is salvagable. I have only 10 hours on this motor since a rebuild so many parts are new. To pull the crank and have it turned may ultimately be more expensive than this old tractor is worth.

Take the crank to a local machine shop with a decent reputation and ask if it can be repaired and if so, how much it will cost. That answer will determine if you really want to repair the tractor or not. The problem with salvage yards is that they are not likely to sell you just a crank, that makes the rest of the engine worthless to them. They might sell you an engine but you have to assume it needs rebuilding.

You might be able to find a donor tractor, one with the same engine in good shape but maybe it has a dead tranny or whatever. Often that's the least expensive way to go but it might take a while to hunt one down.

A donor tractor is what I was hopping to scare up. I suspect a machine shop will want a months blood supply. However a tractor in the midwest wont help - I'm in Florida.(staring down the barrel of Hurricane Francis)
