Coming to work this morning I saw the road crews mowing with three brand new Case IH tractors except one was a brighter red and had the McCormick label on the side in silver. Other than the name and color it was identical to the other ones. Is Case starting up a Mccormick line?

You will see both McCormick and Farmall tractors. The current companies figure they can get a better return on investment on the cost of a decal and exploit the old names rather than selling a new tractor on its own merits. The same with Cub Cadet. Todays Cub Cadets are far from the durabiliy and quality of the originals. Probably the closest you can come to an original IH tractor now days is the Mahindra.
I don't know anything about the new tractors. They may be very good tractors but using the McCormick and Farmall names is a way of selling tractors by an emotinal exploitation of a long gone era.

The McCormick tractors have been available for 3 or 4 years now, they are sold through the New Holland dealers in my area.

The McCormick name was sold when Case and New Holland merged. I believe Landini bought it as well as the factory in England. This is from memory, I someone else may have more information.

You are right, the name had to be sold after the Case/New Holland merger. At the KC farm show about 18 months ago I was told by the McCormick guy that these tractors are the old Case "Maxxim" line that used to be produced in Racine. That entire plant was vacated when the name and line were sold and these are now made in England. They are packaged and crated and shipped back to the US. Final assembly for my area is done in Pella, Iowa by the ----- --pany. I suppose they have other US based assembly points.

Don't blame Case/NH for this one. The US government said they had to give up rights to some tractor lines to get the New Holland merger approved. I understand they sold the McCormick name, and maybe Farmall also. New Holland no longer has the Ford name. If you think about it this one company would have controlled an enormous amount of all the tractors being built. Maybe it isn't a bad thing?

I believe it was the European equivlant of our anti-trust laws that caused this.

So let me get this straight! These tractors are a Case design which is owned by an Italian firm but made in England then assembled by Vermeer, labled McCormick then sold in the U.S. GOOD GRIEF!

Where in PELLA is the plant where they assemble these tractors?

McCormick, part of the ARGO Group (Not AGCO) bought the Doncaster plant along with the rights to use the Case design for I think 2 years. The tractors are now a new McCormick design running Perkins rather than Cummins engines. They were also contracted to supply tractors back to CNH, but now they have their own common platform tractor to sell as Case or New Holland.

You got it! The McCormick line is the old IH C & CX series and MX MAXXUM SERIES. The MX MAXXUM came from the old 5100 & 5200 CASE/IH tractor line and the C is the old 574 675, 84, 85, 95 series. Life is good

Men I know that I am getting old but somewhere down thru all the posts I got lost as to who made what and when they made it , the best that I can figure out is its another of our jobs gone overseas. Mine went south of the border in 1996 so I know how it is.

Don't get excited, the days of the simple McCormick tractors are over. I lived in that era, the best of times, but those days are over.
