I ask the question about a stabilizer bar recently. Thanks for all the replys. Now can someone tell me if a drawbar is better than a stabilizer bar? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the two? Thanks Again
Dennis

They are 2 seperate things and so I do not understand the question? It's like asking if a chair or a table is a better thing..... You can use one with or without the other, but they are not generally interchangable, so neither is better or worse than the other.....

What are you trying to do again?

Drawbar can be 2 different things even - one is a swinging drawbar fastened solidly under the diff case, other is an 11 hole metal bar that goes in the 3pt hitch.

Stablizers can also be 2 different things, one keeps the drawbar from swaying from side to side (2 different designs on these, inner or outer); other keeps the 3pt hitch at one level so it can't raise or fall.

Each is very good at doing it's job, I prefer a swinging drawbar for it's stability, & I prefer inner stableizer bars to keep the 3pt from swaying.

If you use an 11 hole drawbar on the 3pt you should use the ridgid stablizer bars that keep the 3pt from rearing up & hurting something.

Better, worse, does not compute. :)

I'm very sorry. I should have said I have both on my Ford 600. The question was why? Is there an advantage of one or the other? What do I have both for? How about what is the purpose of them?

Which of them do you have? Unfortunately, there are several items that share the same name.... :)

The 11 hole rectangular drawbar that goes onto the lower arms of your 3pt is a drawbar. Is this what you have? You hook wagons, trailers, and other such trailing implements to it. For some things it is real nifty, for other things it is actually not so great, and can even be a bit dangerous... There is a little clamp deal that goes on one side that keeps it from spinning around, this can be helpful.

The stablizers - the type that go inside or outside your 3pt arms & the other end goes under the rear axle are _very_ helpful to keep your 3pt arms from swinging back & forth and causing too much sway. Use them for about everything except plowing maybe.

The type that go from the end of the 3pt arms up to the upper arm anchor on the tractor are there to keep the 3pt drawbar at a set level, and is a bit of a safety feature. They are, as far as I know, mostly only useful for that 11 hole drawbar.

Did I happen to hit the type of items you are asking about? I can explain each better if you wish, but want to see if that's what you have first...

Ok, Let me try to explain myself. I see the 3 point on the back. You hit the lever and it goes up or down. I also have what looks to be a hitch directly on the back axle of the tractor that will sway left and right. Looks like you can put a hitch ball on it to pull a trailer. Is this what it is for? I am new to this. I bought this tractor for my property and I want to bush hog the property and use it to take care of the horse. It has a front loader, good for scooping the horse puckey you know. Any help would be appriciated.....

Although you don't say what tractor you have I think it was a Ford 600 and I responded to your origional post. The 11 hole drawbar on the 3pt with the anti lift stablilizers is good if you need to off set something far to the side or for some other special purpose. The under differential drawbar is easier to use for many things. It is often lower than people set the 3pt drawbar. Lower is safer. The hitch point is closer to the tractor so a heavy tongue load on a trailer doesn't have as much a chance to make the tractor nose light. The closer a trailer is hitched to the differential the easier it is to back up. With many implements on the 3pt arms it is still possible to hitch a trailer to the drawbar at the differential. A trailer ball on the drawbar is always upright as opposed to the 11 hole drawbar that rotates unless you fasten it steady. These are only my ideas so decide for yourself.
