I own an earlier model Belarus tractor that has 12 volt starting system. It's slow cranking over and hard starting. The newer models have been converted to 24 volt. I am considering trying a 12 volt gear reduction starter. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience we these or can help me with this problem. Thanks Richard

Have owned a Belarus 800 since 1984. Originaly had two 6 volt batteries in series. After ten years of fighting this I converted to two 12 volt batteries in paralell used the biggest batteries that would fit. This made a lot of difference. Last year or maybe the the year before the original starter needed parts that were not available (Belarus said replace complete starter). Did a internet search and found a place in Texas (Kelly Ind.) that converted Delco staters to for Belarus tractors.
I installed one the converted Delco units and the strater spins the engine much faster.
The tractor cranks very well during winter in north Florida.

Hey Frank, could you possibly come up with a phone number or email address for that Kelly Ind out of Texas. I sure would be interested in talking to them. Thanks Richard

Hey Frank, thank's a million. This looks like the answer to my problems. I figured there had to be an easier way than to convert to 24 volts. Thanks again, Richard

Do you have 1 12V battery or 2? If you have 2 batteries, you could have a bad series parallel switch. If it is a 1 battery system, get the largest, highest cranking output battery you can fit in the box,a car or light truck battery doesn't have enough power to spin the engine over fast enough.

Check your cables. They may be corroded on the inside and affecting current flow. Also check your starter, if it is dragging it will be slow to turn over.

I have a Kubota tractor, diesel, L235. It has been very hard to start. So I took the starter off and had it checked. Nope starter was fine. I have a glow light and now it does not seem to glow. I purchased the tractor second hand and it has always been hard to start. Cold weather I could get it started after about 5 - 10 minutes of trying, warm weather about 2 - 3 minutes. I replaced one of the battery cables because the insulation was melted a little from cranking for too long at a time. Also cleaned the battery terminals on both ends of the cables. If I did not crank it for at least 45 seconds then it would never start. Once it starts up it runs great. After it warms up it start easier maybe within 20 seconds of cranking. Currently the glow light will not light. I thought it did before having the starter checked, but not 100% sure. Now I can't get the tractor started. Is it because the glow light is not working? I am new to diesel tractors but I am very mechanically inclined. I did take the ignition switch off and when I turn the key to the position to light the element the tester shows a connection. What are some things I need to try to get this tractor starting easier? I have already changed the fuel filter and fuel in the tank. Took out what I think are the glow plugs and cleaned them. Please help if you can give me any insight on what I can try next to make my tractor start or start easier. Thank in advance for any help/info you can provide to me.
