Has any one had any experience with a mulching finishing mower. My Bush Hog dealer has one that is a five footer. Thanks

A true mulching mower will up your horsepower requirements. They don't have a discharge chute so you are constantly"mulching" what you have already cut and blow it down into the lawn, not out the side.If the grass gets too high, they don't do a good job because they can't get rid of the clippings fast enough, and tend to ball up and leave skips. If you keep your lawn mowed regularly and don't try to cut 4" grass,or cut wet grass it will be OK. Otherwise stick with a regular finish mower.Kinda overrated in my opinion,I'd rather put up with an ocasional windrow rather than creep along listening to the tractor drag if the grass gets ahead of me.

the only difference between a mulcher and a regular mower is the type of blade used. Regular mowers have a straight blade that just cuts the grass off, and throws it out whole length, a mulcher blade is curvy and cuts the grass up into pieces. The mower you have now could become a mucher simply by changing the blade(s) to mulchers, and mulcher blades are availible all over.
