It's a good chance it is a 101 Jr, from 43 to 46, the Jr was fitted with the 162 Continental, and the Model 30 came out in 1947, but do as Mike suggests, and get the ser. number to find out exactly what it is...

Didn't know that about the engines in the Juniors. Learn something every day. I wonder how he knows it is a '46?

I read that in Keith Oltrogges "Massey Tractor Data Book", but there are lot's of mistakes in the book.

I'm guessing a model 30 if it has the 162 cubic inch version of the Continental flathead. Also, the Juniors had hinged sidepanels while the model 30 had the hood and sidecovers as one unit. The serial number is hand stamped into the upper machined surface of the transmission/differential casting. More specifically, between the rear steel plate covering the gears and the cast iron shifting platform (has the 1,2,3, etc. on it) that is in front of it. Go between these two covers to the left side (near the clutch pedal location when out) and the number is there, big numbers but maybe not stamped in too deeply so you'll have to scrape and wire brush to find it but it will be there. Post the number here and someone will ID it for sure as to year and model.

Yup, it's a '46 ... about half way through that model year and as Dave says, that was the last year for the 101 Junior line (replaced by the model 30). That last year started at 503779 and ended with 505513. Yours would be a rowcrop, I don't think I've seen the J before (maybe means Junior) nor the E, I'm not sure what that would be. The R would be the rowcrop (narrow front) I'd guess.
