I have seen VW power units (genstes and pumps) at farm days in Senica falls New York (see www.empirepotatogrowers.com) The company that brought them was PENN DIESEL SERVICE 1-800-535-2913. I notice that those have a BIG water to oil cooler and a mechanical injection pump (1999 they did any way) I would like to use one myself but the old rabit car ones have the starter mounted on the trany side like the old IH Hydros and the clutch had a rod that went through the mainshaft of the trans to release the clutch. I thought that the new TDI only made 90 hp at 5krpms? why not a 4cyd bseries cummins?

Carl, the only thing I have ever seen a VW engine in besides an automobile was a Spracoupe. Ever seen one? Newer ones have Perkins. Older ones have VW. I don't know anything about clutch set up. I didn't look that close. I hope this helps. Steve.

Hi Carl,

Great cheap engine source. Try the VW car magizines and look at the full page ads. When I rebuilt my VW diesel, I found out that I could have boutght a brand new IDI engine cheaper than I rebuilt mine in parts.
