I hate when people post a for sale ad with no price listed. I don't know about anybody else but that means right off the bat, I won't inquire about it.

I know I will get slammed for this but if I am buying a very rare tractor from someone that is worth big bucks I most likely will not want everyone to know what I had to give for it. On the other hand if it is a common tractor I would rather have the price posted. The bottom line is I dont think it should be mandatory to post the price.

When I advertise an item for sale, I always state the price to eliminate people who are not interested. You can get fifty calls and maby three will are interested.

What about the fellow that has his tractor on/off the photo ads the last couple of years. I e-mailed about seeing it before and wondered why it didn't sell. I would think his asking price was to high. After I e-mailed him, he raised the price because he thought he was asking to little and it scared people off(because something must be wrong with it). Yes, the price is to HIGH. Duh! I bet he still has it and will for some time.

They won't list a price , But you make an offer too low and they'llcome right around. What it is.... is they are hoping for somebody to walk up and offer something way too high , and then they accept it.Round the barn twice to get in the door, seems to me....Mguy.

You hit the nail on the head. They know how much they want for the thing, but do not want to eliminate the uneducated or enthusiastic person that is willing to pay much more than market value. I don't think I have ever seen a case where someone has something for sale at say $1000 and someone else offers to buy it at $1500. To me it is a little dishonest.

I agree too. How bout the person who has it for sale and then they say to you "make me an offer.." I say " your the one with it for sale...you must have a price in mind.." if they don't then I ask them to call me when they do...and walk away..you would be surprised how fast they come up with a price.

Me too Dirthog, put me at the top of that list. It's a waste of time reading the ad. It must be some sort of mind game.

Or how about the ones that read best offer over $X,XXX. The thing is that all these guys keep posting their ads, but 6 months later they still have the item. Either they want to sell it or they don't. I keep seeing the same W-9 against the fence week after week. No set price, nothing but a lot of wasted time and probably long distance calls.

I agree!!!! If the seller really wants to sell he knows what he wants and should say so. We have a local JD dealer who has a tag on every piece of equipment on his yard and I like that. At least I know where to start talking.
The same goes for anything in a store. If it don't have a price on it I won't buy it even if I want it. I just go somewhere else. K-Mart was one of the worst offenders and Wal-Mart runs a close second and I have no intention of taking an item to one of their "price checkers" that don't work anyway..... ...

"I also agree". My peve in Canada is the "Builders Hardware" stores, "Brafsco Fastners", the "JD Dealers" and "Cisco" Tools & Hydraulics. Every thing from a .25 washer which costs $1.50 to a tractor (Which could cost you extra $???$ just because you don't know where to start bidding) - you have to ask the counter person for every price. My other Peve is the
parts people on the fourms never give prices it's
always e-mail me for a price. What a shock when think a part would be $75 - $125 and it's $420.
It would ease the shock if prices were not so secret untill you must have it, and a lot of tractors would be in better shap, if we knew in advance it's going to be closer to $400 than $125. Sometimes they need exact info but not always' Whew - -Feel better now, Thanks. TomR

It's an old dealers trick. First, it will be way overpriced. They think you will fall in love with the description and when they hit you with the price you will succumb to their slick line and
want to believe what they tell you. Never could believe anyone would fall for it.

No price listed in the ad is bad enough, but what about those guys who don't even give out an asking price .... they give you the old "make me an offer" or "what's it worth to you"? That would be OK if I approached somebody about a tractor that wasn't advertised, but if it's advertised then it should have an asking price, even if it's not posted in the ad.
