I bought a new Load-trail (PJ)trailer at a local
auction. After I bought it I asked the dealer
who sold it if he had the key to the box on the
front of the trailer. He said,"You bought what was
there" and walked away.I called the company to get a key and a instruction manual and they said if you bought it at auction,no key,no book,
no warranty.Some customer service,all I wanted
was a key and a book,I won't buy anything else
from them.I bet if someone got hurt with one of
their trailers and a lawyer found that they refused to furnish an owners manual with the
safety warnings they would be in a lot of trouble.

If the "dealer" that sold the trailer at auction is an authorized seller of that brand, then you bought it from the dealer. The auction co. is agent for the seller, just like a salesman. Tell the manufacturer that it was purchased from the dealer and he did not disclose the problems before you bought it, and won't correct them. In any case, just drill out the lock and put in a new one.

Warranty policy is a shield for the manufacturer to hide behind IF they want to. Most likely the policy was written by a lawyer to protect the company. However, warranty policy can be bent IF you find the right person. If you can't get the Service Manager to bend, the most logical person to go to is the Sales Manager - as understands what happens to sales if a customer is unhappy (that is if he knows anything at all about sales). Keep moving up the ladder until you get results!

Every auction I've been to has always been "As Is". And there is no warranty on "As Is". You always have to ask all the questions before the gavel falls.

I would get back to the manu. and go up through the channels as you apparently got a brushoff any manu. these days has to be very safty concious and they even initiate contacts to recent owners to make sure safety is understood. You can't purchase replacement items with out a manual!!
