Got a 800 Ford with tight new linkage but steering wheel will freely spin one full turn before control arms move. Steering is manual. Would appreciate any help as this is the last thing I have to do with this tractor to put it in A1 mechanical condition. Thanks.

Does your steering wheel move vertically as you turn it? If so, there are a couple of thrust bearings on the steering shaft that are probably shot. If the wheel moves only a little vertically, it could be the ballnut box. It seems a lot of these old steering gear boxes over the years leak most of the oil out and no one checks the oil, so they operate dry and eat up the innards. For that reason, when I rebuild a steering gear, I fill the box with corn head grease. It's a soft grade 0 grease that won't run off of any surface it is on. Seals can be shot and it won't leak out.
