We were getting $100 a ton for steel pieces that are less than 3' by 5'. Pieces bigger than that are only worth $50 a ton. Our steel salesman said that China put in two huge steel plants for melting scrape and are buying all the steel they can get their hands on. The salesman also claims that rising scrape prices always indicate a incline in the economy...

I took a load of junk metal to the recycler last Nov. on Veterans Day. Had maybe 1/2 ton, never got a dime for it. In fact, he never offered to pay me anything, but I was just glad to get rid of it.

We're getting $130.00 a ton for it here in north eastern Oregon. You need to check around for better place to take your scrap iron. It is going up everyday. Everything has to be shipped to Portland, OR from here.

Yikes! How many old tractors will be lost this time? No wonder the body shop scrap bin gets emptied faster than cars can be wrecked to fill it. It was a good supply for welding projects while it lasted.
