My Grandfather had a 540 and a 560 back in the early 60`s. I drove both and the 560 was a great pulling tractor with the heavy equipment. I never see anything about the 560 on here. Were they not many made or were they just a great tractor with no problems????

I have 3 560's. Two of the three had blown engines and the owner lied to me about the third.
It was supposed to have been a working tractor. It had a too tired engine too. After a bit of work (tearing down, etc.) and examination we have come to the conclusion that the 560 was a good tractor when new, however, a number of them were ill cared for and if the power steering unit was allowed to leak and begin to plug the radiator the perkins with only 3 main bearing was not strong enough for the impending abuse and a number of them blew.
It appears, the rest of the tractors with the exception of the 3-pt. hydraulics, which were too light, were very strong and durable. I hope to replace the perkins with a 4 cyl. cummins when time permits. Hope to have a good runner. Don't know much about the 540, but have one of each of the rest of the square noses. Have one of the 550 diesels with all the goodies. Too bad the Cockshutts were not allowed to live. They had one of the best on the market.

The 560 was a good solid tractor built to replace
the model 40. It was a low production tractor with
only just over 2900 built from 1958 to 1961. The
early 1958 models with the L4 Perkins could be a
little hard to start, but that was corrected with
the 4-270 Perkins.
