Iwas at a collector sale 2 years ago for massey harris, restored tractors brought 4 to 5 thousand andunrestored around 2 on average, these were running tractors. what will they be in twenty years, I have about 25 of them, there is a lot of varibles, larger tractors coming in to the collector market such as the 70s style, more acreage owners, higher incomes, less interest of the youger generation, less time of a working family, what do you think, about double of what they are now? what about hte economy and the value of the dollar. what is your opinion?

You might as well forget about selling your tractors and putting the money in your mattress as the American dollar won't be worth toilet tissue either!!

As long as there are rich people out there that can pay for what they want , there will be rich collectors. Remember, during the Great Depression the rich were rolling Ben Franklins into cigars after dinner at the Ritz. Just an optamistic thought:)

Just the reason I am finishing college with a degree in Education. No matter what the world will always need teachers! Just think about it - there would be no other profession without teachers - not even a burger flipper because even they have to read!

I'm feeling confident and secure about my future...

A degree in education and you have a Farmall instead of John Deere???? What are they teaching you? Just kidding. I've been teahing for 31 years and it's been rewarding. Now it's time for me to retire and play with my tractors instead. Good luck!

They don't pay teachers enough to afford John Deere! - seriously though, I will have a JD when I can afford it...

Thank you for the support!

A lot of elderly collectors all about the same age and health sitting on a humongous number of tractors out there I know of four with over a hundred tractors each in a 30 mile radius of me. What is going to happen when they pass on and there collections show up on the market?something to think about!!

Worry not! The Nigerians are prepared to buy up all the old tractors! They're making generous offers constantly.

My dad was a farmer for most of his life. He bought a used John Deere B (SN 55895) in 1942. It came with steel wheels which he upgraded to rubber after WWII. Dad retired in the mid 70's and sold all his farm equipment except for that JD B. He restored it back to new and used it many times for show to pull floats in local parades, etc. To this day, it runs like it did when we used it every day in the fields. He keeps it covered in an enclosed garage. Now Dad is 92 and has finally decided to sell some of his toys. I'm convinced that old "B" has some classic value but haven't got any idea where to start looking for advice. I stumbled on to this web site doing a Google search. Can some one on this forum give me any advice on how to properly put this tractor on the market and what it might be worth? Thanks for any help.

Good day sir,

I would have to second the notion of the fella under the handle "keep it". From what you've said, that old tractor has a nice history behind it and a lot of sentimental value. My grandpa was 92 when he passed away and all three of his tractors are still in the same barn where they were when he was alive. All three are still used intermittently on the farm too. Dad and I haven't restored 'em yet but would like to when the good Lord allows us to financially. I strongly recommend keepin the one you have. If he insists on selling it then make him an offer. Many folks have posted about such things and wished they'd never lost track of their family's tractor. God bless

As for tractor prices--at the rate things are going--in ten years yer tractors and everything else won't be worth anything! The only workers will be hamburger pushers, or some jobs like that! The work force is being demolished by the politicians, with Nafta, and WTO. The pols are trying to get the country back to 1935 or so, and you'll be working for peanuts--therefore, your antique cars and tractors will be worth almost nothing! So, ya might as well sell them soon, get as much as you can, put the money in yer mattress, and just wait---

I would sell my old tractor, or anything else, in order to stock up on US dollars. The dollar is in the early stages of one of the biggest devaluations in history. That means inflations. Only the polititions are not reporting inflation because then they would have to raise interest rates. Then all the people in hyper debt would go broke.

Hang on to your old tractor. If your going to put something in your mattress I would suggest GOLD.

The USA is not destined to be the dominant force in the world for long. We can’t read, write or do math on a par with even a 3rd world country. Just a bunch of fat and lazy sloth’s waiting for the next shoe to drop. One 3rd of our children are obese (That means FAT) And have no direction in their lives.
Yup times are going to be tough in the coming years but its not the fault of the politicians.
its ours for thinking the 50's and 60's would last for ever.
The 50's are not coming back. The 21st century is upon us and we are wanting. The Chinese, Indians and any of the Pacific Rim countries. Can do it Faster, Cheaper, Smarter and soon better than us.

I for one am not looking for a new mattress. I am making sure my children get a good handhold on the rung of the next big thing. They are going to school and collage. There is plenty of opportunity out there for people who are Educated and ambitious. What are your kids doing?

College doesn't mean much anymore, almost everyone
graduates from college,it doesn't give you an edge,it's just a money making deal for the
schools. Most have lowered there grade scale so
anyone can graduate. The most successful people
I have ever seen never attended college.A
college can't make a successful person.

It looks like a third or more of the tractor drivers I see in parades are a little on the heavy side. They belong to the dunlap club, dunlaped over the belt. Why don't someone say anything about fat adults, its just as bad?
