Hi all,
I read the thread on in floor heat as I have been considering it for a home we will hopefully build next year. They quote a cost of about %100 more than baseboard so I'm thinking about doing most of the installation, except for the boiler, myself. Any one have any advice for me for choosing between an open or closed system? Pros and cons? Thanks. Dan.

Why mess with a boiler? Contact your electric cooperative about economical, off-peak floor heat. Install heating coil under the slab and wire it directly to your breaker box.

I built a new home three yrs. ago.I put a infloor system in ,3400sq.ft. 7 thermostats I can say It's the best thing I did!!The cost really Isn't bad, about half again as much as forced air.A boiler doesn't cost anymore than a regular forced air furnace. The cost comes in from installing all the tubeing. I used a product called "wersbo",3/4"OD--5/8"ID. I don't understand why people think the boiler is so expenceive !! .If I had to say what was the best thing about this heat it would be:no noise,no hot and cold spots, even heat floor to ceiling,VARY cost efficent,Iwish I'd have put it in my shop building !! hth. I am also curious. I am designing a milking parlor and would definitely like to put in a heated floor but am worried about cost. I am trying to put this whole thing together for around $5000 so you can see that is a major challenge.

the cost of putting in floor heat is a draw back. to save money i bought a used boiler. it came out of a house. the owner wanted air conditioning. it was only a couple years old at the time. you will most likely never get a second chance to put in the tubing. it is great heat

I have it in my shop and it is the best heat that I ever used.I heat my 1,600 sq.ft.shop with a 30 gallon water heater for a boiler. The cost was about the same as other heat.
Check out www.aqua-floor-com.That is where I got my supplies. They were a great help
