I'm finding some nice older tractors with cabs (with heat but without airconditioning) from the northern US, but I'm in Texas, so buying a cab tractor without air is out of the question. CAn anyone tell me if aftermarket airconditioning can be installed in these cabs, what companies make them and any estimate on cost, or how hard it would be to put one in? Thanks for your help!! Contact Bill at Visionaire-Inc (972-647-1056). They are located in Dallas/ Fort Worth Area. Great people to deal with. Their website is www.visionaire-inc.com. They specialize in aftermarket air conditioner units for heavy equipment, farm equipment, and special uses. I would highly recommend them.

Hi, Tim. Being as I live DownUnder, I can't help you much with makes, models, suppliers, etc.. I am only posting to let you know if you don't know already that many of these earlier cabs are not particularly airtight and there may need to be a bit of work done to plug the leaks or that 'pore ol' eggnishner' will be working overtime alla time.

If you are going to be using these tractors in dusty conditions, it is possibly also worth putting the filtered pressurisation system on with the air conditioner. It works well on the Cat 953 loader I'm working these days. I don't even mind loading trucks into the wind with dusty material.

We have one old Cat 941 with an air cab that I DON'T like loading into the wind with because the machine itself was not originally designed/built to be easy to seal a cab on and dust gets in at least as well as the cold air escapes.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Ask some of the mechanics at shops in your area where they get parts from. Northern is a company that supplies parts but dont know if they have complete units. Try some of the truck places. Thermo King and Red Dot are some of the units they sell. Email me and I can give you a few numbers to try.

I used to use a swamp cooler on a Case 1030. BYCOOL I beleive was the brand name. Worked fairly well. Had to pack a 5 gallon jug of water twice a day for it.

Tim,
Prior to joining the military, I was living on the farm near Waco and working in shops in and around the area. Although I didn't put any of these on tractors, I had installed more than a few after market A/C units on a few gravel, grain, and other trucks. Check with your local NAPA Parts Store. They used to supply us with an almost self contained unit that we would put on these trucks (Roof Mount Air). It came with all the items needed for hooking up the cooling unit. The compressor had adapters to mount on most engines and pulleys to mount on the engine. Also had the required hoses, wiring etc. That was more than a few years ago, so I won't bother trying to quote you a price. But I do recall that we were charging around $1,000 to install them.
later days mate,
Jim now in NM again
