Anybody think this is a good idea? Or have I inhaled to much old lead paint, gas fumes, distillate, ether, or all of the above.

Take Care
Steve

OK, but let's wait until summer! 28 miles down a mountain canyon in the snow on an old tractor makes me nervous.

Speaking of snow, we got 2" - 3" at my house in the last 24 hours. Promising more tonight and tomorrow....just in time for a farm equipment auction! I'll be there, but I'll be COLD!

Well I do just that several times each year. I do however live in town about a half mile from the library where I work.

I take it to work to clean up the mess the snow removal crews make.

No big deal here as we are in Amish/Menonnite country. Rarely a week day passes that we don't have a Ford or John Deere tractor in the library parking lot.

Anyone else remember that old "Drive your tractor to Washington D. C." time period? About 1980 I think. I heard many farmers gave up after their tires were chewed down to nubbins after about 200 miles.

I have done just that a few time to pick up my check and also went to the bank and cashed it. Going thru the drive up on a farmall B is different.

I bet that some of these presidental hopefuls will want to use that in their new campaigns. Should work. I'm retired, but I could just drive around town that day if it goes through.---deadeye

Does it count if I hauled it to work on a trailer so I could bushhog for some body after I got off work?

Not a bad idea, but I too work from home so I wouldn't have anywhere to go either. I have driven the tractor to town before for gas but never had the nerve to drive through Mc donalds's window on it(yet). I wonder if there is a law against talking on the cell while driving a tractor .

That would be a month long ordeal for me! I work a bit over 400 miles from home, 7 days in and 10 out. Let's see at 2200 in 3rd gear on the 9N, that would be about what, 6 or 7mph? So about 60 hours each way, in the snow..... ...LOL!

Of course it's a great idea! Because it's very similar to my idea of "Take Your Tractor to Church" Sunday, which is much easier for me because church is only about 2 1/2 miles away and work is 21.
Why don't you get Congress or the President to declare such a day. There's weirder ones than that, for sure.

Say, that reminds me--next year is an election year isn't it?

Sounds good to me, but I work a home. I'll just drive it around the block a few times, or maybe just drive around all day long to make up for the commute I don't have. Oh, my wife is looking over my shoulder, she said something about getting that little farmall out of the basement which I hauled down there piece by piece and put together and drive that.

The first 11 miles down the mountain on a road with no shoulder, doin' 7.5 mph on rice tires? I don't think so.

Not a good idea. If we started that, then all the yuppies would want to trade their new Beemers in on old John Deeres, that would drive the prices up on the old tractors..... ..... .., Hmmm, maybe its not a bad idea! Nah, there would be wrecked old tractors littering the freeways.

I don't know what you inhaled but keep sniffing! That's a great idea. For the guys that live on a farm, your lucky, you don't have far to go. Keep us posted and let us know if you get it organized. Think about it, no car insurance, no licence required, everybody will wish they had a vehicle as cool as yours, you get to listen to the engine all the way to work, you can drive through the median if traffic is backed up, you'll have something to talk about if your job is a little boring at times, won't get pulled over for speeding, have a good excuse for being late(better if your boss is into old tractors), and for once you can be in the guy that's driving slow at 6:50am with a grin on your face. The benefits are almost endless.

I'm sorry but in Missouri when you start driving it to work you will need licence and insurance.

Oh, I didn't know. Here in Indiana we don't have to. Just a SMV sign, some gas and you can back up traffic all day. Do you have to have a license plate on them too?

I would need a road gear in mine since my commute is about 42 miles each way.

Yeah it would take me a while to get there too. 74 miles at 3 1/2 mph redlining high gear.

Heh heh
I've been commuting about 30 miles each way here lately.
But during those durn rush hours when all the big roads are at a crawl my little 2N Ford with it's Sherman overdrive would probably easily keep up.
I think it'll do about 20 mph.
Maybe we could all put our bush hogs on the back and if the traffic stops just take to the ditches. Everyone would think we're just very efficient highway workers...

Not that big of deal. Most of the folks we deal with in the Northeast think that's what we do every day here in Central OH.
