Seek advice on sickle bar vs. haybine

I cut hay on about 20 acres of ground two or three times a year. I am using a Ford 2000 with a 6 ft. sickle bar mower. I am about to lose my religion due to continual clogging of the mower making it necessary for me to back up, raise the mower, unclog the sickle bar, and start up again. I don't know how a haybine works. Would it be less suceptible to clogging than a sickle bar mower?

I was having trouble cutting heavy alfalfa with a swather (haybine) because of dandelions and it was wet underneath, a few mouse nests too. I put on a set of guards that don't stick out ahead of the sections and that have hold downs on every section. Plugging problems were over. Since we were near a highway, plastic bags were occasionally a problem. I'll bet that a disc mower
would eat that stuff right up. Ed

Oh you better beleive a disc-bine will eat that right up. We run a NH 1431 and it will run as fast as the horse pulling it, wet or dry!

Please ignore my post. I am new to the forum and didn't realize that my question was already addressed very thoroughly in the "Implement Alley" forum.

Thanks,

Tom
