no engine , no sheet metal, M&W 9 speed and the rest of it is there. The question is, what's the slickest diesel re-power you ever seen in an M or SM? It could be a long winter

had the same idea a few years ago. was going to use a "h" instead. had a BRAND NEW factory rebuilt Cummins 65 horse aquired for $100. yes $100. school system had some engines donated and it was in the stash -came from onan in huntsville - auto teacher did not want it. had not paid for it and another techer offered the school $1000. well gee!! looked like it would have fit with very little modifying.

Mercedes 4cyl. Give you about 65hp which shouldn't hurt the rest of the driveline. It'd be no bigger than what it had originally. Dead stupid simple to work on and very reliable.
Cheap too. The 4cyl came in the 240D of which they made TONS from like '71 to '84ish. Probably could get a rusted hulk of a car with a good engine for $200.

What about a cummins engine? 4 cylinder diesel (4bt) or what about the 5.9l 6 cylinder(12valve with mehcanical pump)?

26r=Red, That 4 cylinder cummins, what does that thing live in originally? It would seem like a good choice : fuel use, reliability, physically fitting in there without torching a whole lot. You guys are a sealth of good knowledge, thanks. Mguy.

How about an IH V-8 diesel out of a wrecked dorF pickup? I've seen some neat jobs that repowered M's with V-8 gassers (including a really neat 345 IH in one), don't know why a V-8 diesel wouldn't work. You'd be sticking w/IH, if you went that way. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
