I have a Ford 1710 with a loader and want to mount a pair of headlights so they will be useful with my loader.I do have a ROPS and thought about putting a pair in it ? Any thoughts would be appreciated. The headlights that I have on the tractor now are in the fenders and are not much good with the loader on.Tim

I was once running the second shift on a logging truck with a self loader. There is no good place for lights when working with logs, because sooner or later they will get hit and knocked off. They also point to one specific area, and even if they are on the boom so they pivot with the loader, they are often not where they need to be. With a self loader, the seat is at the top of the thing, so you sit up and look over the top of everything. I used the lights which were on the loader when I started using it, but also put a place to plug in more. Then I mounted a pair of tractor work lights on the sides of a hard hat (one on each side). I was told it looked like Mickey Mouse ears, but the light was where I was looking from, so it was never in the shadows for me. I did learn that you don't move your head as much as you think when you look from one place to another. I had to learn to leave my eyes looking in the same spot relative to my head and move my head instead. I chose to use two lights mounted low on the hat so it would not fall off when I looked up or down. One in the middle of the top would have been top heavy. The guy I was working with did laugh at me. I would do it again in the same situation.

Tim, A safety point.
Remember the ROPS is YOUR protection in the unlikely(?) but possible accident. Do not fit lights in it unless it already has a channel. Do not drill any holes in it. If you decide to fit lights on it, attach with clamp brackets so you don't drill holes in the ROPS and finish up with a collinder as a ROPS. If it were to get severely tested it might just fail at such points....

Good point on not to drill any holes in the R.O.P.S. Someone did weld a bracket up on the middle of the cross bar so I think that they might have had a light up there at some point. And there was black elec. tape on down the side of the r.o.p.s. I was looking over the tractor again today and I might change my mind and put a pair up near the front of the hood, but on the loader brace on each side.I bought a cheap pair of rubber lights today that have a trapazoid beam.I will have to weld a small bracket on each brace but not a big deal.I think being out front like that they should work fairly good. As one fellow pointed out there isn't any real good place to put lights on with a loader.I may run a couple of wires just temporary and try out a couple of different places that might be the best way to go.Thanks to all for your comments I appreciate it. Tim

I agree with the last poster. I mounted mine on the rollbar of a 2110 Ford and the bugs drove me nuts. Plus there was a strong reflection/glare when no bugs.I kept thinking the best place has to be somewhere up front on the loader or maybe the sides or hood of the tractor. There really isn't a good place that works.

I think all you guys have convinced me that the rops may not be the place to put my lights.I have been looking at the tractor and like Paul I also think somewhere on the frame of the loader or hood of the tractor would be better.Right now I'm thinking the two loader mounts that come straight up from by your feet then behind of the dash. There is a bolt on each side and I could mount them there.Any thoughts on that?Tim

If you mount them to the underside of the ROP the lights are more protected from tree branches.

One thing to keep in mind if those lights shine on you the bugs will drive you nuts at least thats my experience. If the lights are in front of you seems to work better. That's my 2 cents Brian.

Hi, Tim. Somewhere ahead of and above you shining forward and down, preferably with NOTHING in front of the lights that can reflect the light back at you. If you have a full ROPS canopy, just inside the tops of the front legs would probably be a good place.

Remember that if you are loading trucks or dumping at height, you will need to have enough light coming up to your dump height to be able to see what you are doing there too. Sometimes, two pairs of lights are a great help.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Keep the lghts in front of you. I moved them three times on my kubota loader tractor. I got them mounted on the bottom side on the front of the conopy now and that works good for me. For what its worth.
