Orchard mowing

I have about 1500 hardwood trees (young) in 40 rows about 25 feet apart. I used to use my 8N with a bush hog to mow betwwen rows, but the bush hog was too difficult to control. Now I use a Famall Cub with sickle bar, but I still find myself occasionally cutting a seedling when I try to be too fine in my mowing.
Is there another solution to mowing between rows---and between trees in a row---in an orhard situation?
Thanks for the input.

If the cub has a belly mower I would think it would be easier to control than a rear mount. What I noticed trying to fine trim with a rear mount is if you need to turn away from what your trimming it acutualy pushs the three point closer. You might put a line that your tractor caN follow a measured amount away from your trees so you can track in this with your blade clearing the trees by a couple inches. Field marker or single subsoiler

I agree with the flail mower suggestion; an offset flail mower is great for mowing around trees.

The problem is that neither the Cub or 8N have enough power to drive a flail mower of any size.
