Opinion on C and CA Allis tractors

I'm looking at buying a C Allis with a 6ft (72") Artsway finishing mower. The tractor has 4 new tires on it, and the paint is good. (the grill does have a couple of dents) It has the adjustable AC wide front end. The mower is in excellent shape and is raised by the tractor hydrolics. The asking price on this tractor is $2500. I also looked at a CA in about the same condition with a woods mower, but the mower was not nearly as nice and it only had a hand lift, and the price on that was $4150. Is the CA any more beneficial for mowing? I have other tractors to use so it will only be used to mow lawns for myself, parents, and grandparents. I would like to get other opinions regarding if this is a fair price for either tractor. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up purchasing the C tractor. I got it for $2300, and it works like a charm. Mowed all the lawn in about 1/4 of the time it used to take, and it leaves a nice finish.

From your description I'd go with the C. The price is too high on the CA

Just returned from a local auction that had a CA with belly mower, hydraulic lift, hand clutch, nice paint, good tires. The fault that I saw was that the steering sector had so much wear / play (half a turn on the steering wheel). Regardless, it went for $3600. (A WD45 with wide front, loader, power steering, went for $1900.00 at same auction.)

The CA has the hand clutch that will stop forward motion but keep the mower running. This could be a major benfit if you get into tall heavy grass.

Other than that the C and the CA are very similar. The C should have a bench seat rather than a pan seat like the CA. That is about it.

Tough call, I think the CA is over priced and the C is a good price if they are in equal shape. The CA is definetly nice for PTO work though.

Right on all counts, except- make sure the CA has the hand clutch. Some early ones did not. C is a three speed, CA is a four speed, but the hand clutch is the big difference- it gives you live power.
