HERE'S ONE FOR YOU ELECTRICAL WHIZZES OUT THERE. I HAVE A MF 135 WITH A GENERATOR.I ALSO HAVE AN OLD SEARS CEMENT MIXER THAT I WOULD LIKE TO USE OUT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE WHERE I HAVE NO ELEC.CAN I PUT A INVERTER ON A GENERATOR EQUIPPED VECHILE? HOW MANY WATTS SHOULD I USE?MAYBE I WOULD BE BETTER OFF CONVERTING MIXER TO GAS DRIVE.

HEY GUYS,THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS. I KNEW IWOULD GET SOME GOOD ONES.DUH!I FORGOT I HAVE A 5500 WATT CONTINUIOUS GENERAC!I BELIEVE IT WILL POWER THE MIXER JUST FINE.I'M GETTING SO MUCH STUFF I CAN'T REMEMBER IT ALL.

IMJMAC,

Yes you can run an inverter on a tractor with a generator. It just might take a little longer for the battery to charge back up if you pull a lot of juice through the inverter, and you may in fact pull the battery down to where the inverter shuts down while the tractor is running! The biggest problem you will have with your plan is that you will need a pretty big inverter (power wise) to pull the motor on that mixer. And that equals big $$$$!

My .98 worth (.02 plus tax!)

Probably not an option you are interested in - but there seems to be a lot of inexpensive generators around - forsale used.

a pto driven generator set could be rented for this job . it can be useful in other applications too.

Forget it.
You will need up to 6x the running power of the mixer motor to get it started (unless you spend out for a soft-start motor). That is the deciding cost factor unless you happen to have a large domestic inverter available!

Your conversion is roughly 10 to 1, 120 volts @ 3 amps = 12 volts @ 30 amps the inverter will use up some in the conversion also. Mark H.

Hi IMJMAC,

Yes you can but you will need to run the invertor off a deep cycle battery(s). Since you didn't give the mixer motor requirement were guessing.

The invertor will need to run off the deepcycle battery's then can be recharged by the tractor generator to some extent. The deepcycle battery's would never recover fully as deepcycle battery's require a different type of regulator to float charge the battery's to a full state of charge. However the generator will recharge the battery's to a useable state.

Invertors suck alot of amps from a battery.

Now you didn't ask the important question. Would it be cost effective? Probably not. You could buy a gas engine like the others suggested cheaper than two deepcycle battery's and a invertor.

If the tractor has hydraulics, you might get by with a hydraulic motor as an option. It might be possible to use a power steering pump by using the outlet as the inlet and inlet as the outlet. This will run the opposite direction it did as a pump. With some fiddling it is possible to eliminate the pressure relief and priority flow divider. I am running bale elevators with old worn out PTO pumps.

Nope that old generator will not generate enough power and a large enough inverter to run the mixer would cost as much as a new mixer. Just convert it to gas or PTO driven.

IMHO,I don't expect that the massey 135 generator would not be able to provide enough amps to convert into a.c. power to supply a mixer motor like that. I suspect you would be wise to go with gas and save money, time and trouble. Just mu view of it. Gene davis
