I SOLD D7- 3T WITH a good undercarrage and tracks nice paint, good no smoke pony, new dry clutch, rebuilt steering clutches and hyd. assists,no top,new seats,a true low hour machine.for $5500. She would idle so slow you thought she was gone, just tap the throttle and she would come alive.you only needed 3hands to operate her and you never needed to work out to build your strength!!! Never operate a power shift hydraulic machine and then run a 3T ,or It will soon be for sale!

Multiple variables on the king of bulldozers.
An old, large Cat, like a D7, could be parked
with a twin, one with 10K of repairs, and you would have to observe closely for differences.
Undercarriage condition is a big ticket item.
After market parts stamped "Poland" or "Italy"
seem common on older Cats,as the steel seems
softer than original, and tears up quicker in
gravel pits, shunned by owners of late series
dozers. Speculating on old bulldozers is not
advised for novices; you need experience. Cat
built great machines, but rebuilding an old
D7 may cost you your car and 4x4. Good luck!

A 3T to a 17A in my area of north MO usually brings from $3500 to $13,500, but I have a D7 E Power shift cable and I can't seem to get $13500. Whatever you get, if you use it very much , be prepared to work on it. Good luck, Ron

A D7 17A , 1961 , sold for $9200 a couple weeks ago near here at a farm auction . Had cable blade and brush guard , never saw it but my neighbor was there , he said it was pretty good shape , pony gone over recently and quite a bit of steering clutch work done on it . We were going to go together on it but $9200 was over our budget.

Mr. B
There is just no way to give you an answer to your question.
Because:
How are the tracks? What % life left in the pins and bushings? What year is it?
Does it have a pony motor or is it electric start?
Does it start and run good?
Does it have ROPS?
What kind of blade? How much wear?
6 way blade?
Winch?
How are the clutches?
Brakes?
Bubbles in the radiator???
Greasy old thing or nice and clean?
Cat parts are terribly expensive!!
I bought an old 955H Cat a few years ago for $7300. It's similar to a D6.
Used it for 2 summers putting a road in and general cleaning up then sold it for $7100.
I was one of those fools who jump in where angels fear to tread. But got lucky and never had to fix it.
It was the MOST FUN toy I've ever owned though.
Good luck.

never seen a 6 way blade on a D7 of any series,
are you serious. Had many in my logging operation
and never heard of one, maybe on a D5. but maybe
they make them for a 7.

In the service and a long time ago I used to opperate a D-7 and the blade would go up/down. tilt both ways, and angle both ways would you call that a 6/way blade? Mark H.

That's a six way blade Mark. Did it have to be angled by hand? I think all I have seen did, had two tilt cyls on the angle braces.
Never say always or never.Bob

The last time I opperated one was in 1971 but if I remember right there were 2-clyinders and everything was done by hydraulics. I was in the Army when I was trained on one, been awhile! Mark H.

You're right Mark.
But at the time I didn't know that untill it was too late.
The old Cat ran good though. That particular machine was worth what we each paid for it
I think
