The Tuff_Bilt Tractor was manufactured in Cumming, Georgia (leave the "s" off Cummings)...first appeared as the Thomas-Bilt tractor, with dual electric linear actuator lift mechanisms with double 3-point hitches, one in the belly and the other on the rear...was later changed to "Tuff-Bilt" , utilized hydraulic lift mechanisms... they look similar to the old "G" Allis Chalmers, but the transmission is hydraulically driven so that a "go pedal" creates a hydrostatic drive-type mechanism. The acutal drive train (from transmission through the final drive assemblies} are very much like the Economy Power King tractor. Company went out of business through, I've heard, financial difficulties several years ago. Early Thomas-Bilt powered by 16 HP Tecumseh o/v engine...later the Tuff-Bilts were manufactured with 16 HP Kohler single cylinder engines, the K-341 to be specific. One of the former owners of the company, Bobby Wallace, can be contacted, as his phone # is avail via long-distance information., area code is 770. Cumming, Ga. is located about 65 miles northeast of Atlanta very close to US Hwys 19-23, which enters N.C. in the
Sylva, N.C.(around Maggie Valley/Cherokee) area about 75 miles southwest of Asheville,N.C. Mr. Wallace is very helpful regarding company history from his perspective, and he has many replacement parts. It is my understanding that a company has rectently purchased the rights and tooling equipment to market a new version of this tractor, perhaps in the mid-west, although this has not been confirmed. I am very familiar with the product, so if you would like to give me a call, 828-428-2312 any night around 9:30 p.m eastern time, I would be glad to talk with you. I do not check my e-mail very often, so if you e-mailed me, I might not see message for some time. Hope this helps and feel free to give me a call. There are some used tractors still available when you can find one. I can alert you as to what part of the Southeast one could most likely find one . Selling new for around $3400. in late 1970's, they now demand a price of around $3000.-$4000. for a good one.....they have been a durable item, partsare not hard to find...probably the best single-row cultivating tractor for small farms/gardens every made, including the G-Allis Chalmers....both look very much alike.

Carol, I have a Tuff-Bilt tractor that I'm restoring. It is just about to the painting stage. I also have a parts manual for this tractor. Let me know if you would like a copy.

Carol, as I understand, the company is gone. I'm told most of their production was export though a few remained here. You probably already know that it was patterned after the G Allis-Chalmers except it had a little diesel engine. Many thought it a better tractor than the G. I think it had an automatic transmission or torque converter or some such. I have a good friend in Cumming who told me about them. That's about all I know, maybe it will help some. Have a good day. John

Thanks for the information, it is more than I knew before. I did know it resembled the G Allis but didn't know anything else about it. Thanks again

Carol, my friend also told me the demise of the company was financial and mis-management. Some thought perhaps they should have concentrated more on the domestic market. The folks I talked to agree it was a "tougher" tractor than Allis-Chalmers' G, and the automatic drive, whatever it was, was really nice. For a time, and perhaps still, there were some bits and pieces of tractors left in the Cumming area but the general consensus is they are mostly all gone although there are a few of the tractors still in use in the area I'm told. Have a good day. John

My father has a Tuff Bilt tractor. The motor is a 16 hp gasoline engine that runs great. The hydrolic system/pump stopped working and therefore the tractor won't go forward or backward. I want to find a hydrolic pump for it but don't know where to begin looking. Can anyone provide some help. Thanks!

Jamie, I realize this is awfully late but I just stumbled on your inquiry. Have you learned all that you needed to know about the Tuff-Bilt tractor? I have found the owner of the company that made the tractor. He has lots of parts left over. I can put you in touch if you would like.

I have a thomas bilt tractor, and I guess it is the fore runner of the tuff bilt? About two weeks ago there was a web site listed as Tuff-bilt on the net. Since, I haven't been able to find it again. It listed plows, parts and story of the tractor. The tractor was put together from existing parts. If you can find mfg tag on your parts, you can possibly find replacements. Good hunting!

Carol,

My father has two of the tractors that you are asking about. One of them has a 16hp Kohler engine and hydralic lifts. He uses this one with a set of cultivators in his garden. The other one has a 16hp Tecumseh engine. It has a factory built tuff bilt lawn mower that he uses to mow with. Dad thinks they are the greatest little tractor ever built, I don't know. He has a owners manual with one of them. If you would like a copy of it let me know and I will get one to you. I also know of another one here local, so there is a few of them stil around. Hope this helps.
