A while back there was some discussion about the use of a bush hog on a Super A . If any of you guys are running a bush hog on a Super A I have a question for you . How do you deal with the high off-center PTO shaft of the Super A. Is this a problem or will universal joints handle this much offset ?

John: I've been using my Super A with a 4 ft bush hog and I have not found the high offset PTO to be a problem. But,I do have 3 pt hitch on the tractor so that keeps the PTO shaft from swinging when making a turn. Everything seems to work fine and it has plenty of power (I don't have any direct experience with the "trailer" type of bush hog, but I believe I've seen some companies liturature indicating that their trailer type bush hogs fit a Super A and that would seem to say that the high offset PTO shouldn't be to much of a design or operational problem )

John,

I recall the discussion, in fact I asked the follwoing question at that time: "Do you have any problems using rear-mounted equipment with the Super A's 'offset' pto due to the angle?" I couldn't find the actual response but the answer was that there was no problem. Perhaps whoever brought this issue up several weeks ago will see this posting and provide an update.

: John McDevitt Thanks John , I'll wait and see. I also wonder what is the best size for the Super A , 4-foot or 5-foot.I don't plan on doing a lot of bush hogging , just clean up after the fields are mowed . Probablt the 4-foot would be my best bet.

: : John, I have a super a and use the brushhog every week. It is 5 ft, Iinstalled a overrunning clutch on the pto I have no trouble at all , probally the best small tractor ever built, with 2 hyd lift points what more could you want. When I come to the end of a row to turn, I disengage the pto & engage when I get turned around, the ujoints do work hard on LH turns, thats why i release the pto.
The ujoints on mine do not have needle bearings in the cups so I have to grease them each time I use it.
