My 24' tandem dual gooseneck has no dove tail and is a pain to load a tractor with the pull out ramps. I would like to add a 5' dove tail with fold up ramps. Naturally the welding and fabrication will be top notch quality. Alot better quality than the orignal manufacturer (but thats another story) Anyway what does the law say about doing this. Trailer is rated for 20k if that matters.

Who Cares...Let's move on and read the Laws they have available online. All these DOT/CDL things have been covered.

Lets talk about your modification??

However you do it Bob12....is up to you... I don't see a problem with modifying it as log as the dry tounge weight is in spec. They probably won't even notice it is modified if your within length laws and weight for a two axle trailer.

I'm going to refer you to your local law enforcement agency (State Police Post). It seems that the private flaming emails and the 10,000 questions are getting out of hand for me personally.

Sorry to hear that a few (hopefully!) are being pain's in the rear. You have been a very helpful resource and I would hate to have you go. It's good getting the straight skinny from someone in law enforcement.

Hey Dave in reply to davediehl@hotmail.com, 10-25-2007 21:57:10

Thanks for being here.

I hope the low character of some does not drive you away from the board. An Internet board is open to all sorts of people as your job is also I am sure. The information you posted helped answer a great many questions that I had regarding DOT and CDL requirements. However I do feel that the law makers were ill advised when forming these laws, I would never want to shoot the messenger and will never understand the people that do.
My advise to you would be use the delete key before reading what looks like a less than proper email.

I have no intention of leaving the board, I'm just not going to cross the threshold of mixing business with the pleasure of farming. I have been doing my father's farm since his triple bypass about 4 years ago. Farming is not new to me since I was raised there. The past few months was the first time I had even looked into the other categories within the forum. My thoughts of helping some with what I did absolutely backfired yesterday about noon from the email. Though I can hit the delete key and spam blockers are great tools when addressed to a volume of people, there were two that were generated from an obviously new account directed towards police in general and sent to me. Of course people will read things like that when the body of the message contains your name. When you start reading about people and what they plan to do with motorcycles and high speeds one realizes that its just not worth the hassles. No offense to anyone here, I'll just stick to the areas and brands of equipment that I operate. If anyone gets to the area, by all means give me a yell. I'll be happy to sit down and visit, hopefully its not on the side of the road.

Dont let them get you down Dave.I dont cross the big river (Miss) with the pickup and trailer so we wont get to meet at the side of the road.(grin) I most generally travel the back roads of KS.

Here's the one from this morning (02:13)...

Knock knock.

Who's there?

Police.

Police who?

Police let me out of your state, I'm oversize, overweight, I don't have numbers or a CDL and I hate the DOT.

I actually had to laugh at this one. The individual with the yahoo address is a comedian too, or at least wants to be. I'll be looking into tracking the IP address once I get home.

I want you to know that I have a great deal of respect for how you are helping folks on this board. I certianly wouldn't bother you in any way other than engaging in a little civil discourse, and I hope that you don't believe that I would.

As someone who as spent a day or two in court and parked behind weigh station(s) (not by choice), I"m not thrilled with the situations. By all means though, I would not give a PUCO, Statie, Local any hassle personally though. Seems like some people have way toom uch time on there hands and need to grow up. Thanks for all of your posts past and future Dave.
