I saw this new forum the other day and thought it would be a good place to share my planter story. About two years ago I bought a jd 7200 planter about 2 hours away from my home at an auction. I hadn't planned on buying anything so I really didn't go prepared. I bought the planter and started to pull it home at around 6:00pm (first mistake never pull equipment at night without the proper lights). The planter was missing the hyd. cylinder but it had a small piece of steel holding it up so i didn't give it a second thought. All was going well until I started to cross what seemed like a never ending bridge. I hit a gap between the asphalt on the road and the cement on the bridge, it jared the planters, the steel broke and the planters dropped down the plant mode right on the bridge. It was dark and cars were speeding by and slamming on brakes all around me. I didn't know what to do, of all days I had forgotten my cell phone. A state trooper stopped and flagged off traffic for me while I took the jack out my truck and placed it where the cylinder goes on the planters wich allowed me to get to a break on the mile long bridge. Then I used the troopers cell phone to call my daddy for help. Well he arrived about 2 hours later with a come-along and a chain. we chained the jack in place and tied the come along down also, then pulled back out onto the bridge. we made it about 20 yards and the come-along broke and the planters dropped again. By this time it was 12am, I drug the planter about a mile down the road to a gas station and left them there until the next morning. I took a third arm and put it where the cylinder goes and FINALLY got them home. Since then I have made an entire truck tool box devoted to chains and safety equipment, you can never be too prepared.

I've got so many chains, boomers, straps, jacks, and assorted other tools in my truck tool box that I had to reinforce the bottom of the box. Things were beginning to fall through.

I think I overdid it. I kept adding more and more stuff, including tools, an air cocmcpressor, and now a torch, that I added a service body to the truck. I've added an auxilliary battery to run an inverter, and I put a set of plugs on it like the wreckers have for junp starts, and I've used it to jump start myself when I've forgot and left my lights on at an auction.
