Sound like big brother has over steped his bounds with this one. Lets see if I pull my 16' utility trailer with my 1715 ford/New holland that weights about 3000 lbs & trailer weights 1200 lbs thats 4200 lbs , with my Nissan 1/2 tom "small" truck which weights 3800 lbs . I'm OK . Truck has *000 Tags on it . But if I pull With my Siverado 3/4 ton Crew Cab Which would be better and safer I wouldn't be legal . They want ther nose in everyones busness I could see if you were hualling some thing that was a Hazard but to hual a tractor from one farm to the other or to the shop no matter the reason, It belongs to you, as long as it isn't for hire .

It seems to me much of it is bureaucrats making up more regulations to secure more power and job security.

The folks voting this stuff in would be your legislators in the US House and Senate in Washington DC. Some, no doubt heavily influenced by trucking company lobbyist and their $. They figure if you can't haul something yourself, they are going to get big bucks from you to haul it for you. NOT! It has NOTHING to do with safety or any other "warm & fuzzys". If it did you wouldn't see some of them wanting to allow Mexican trucks into this country. Call your US congressmen and your Senator and complain loudly! And do it often.

My guess is that the teamsters union is driving this change so that they can truck more stuff.

It makes no sense that going to a drag race is more of a threat to the public if you win a prize than if you just go to tune your car up.

It makes no sense that a person buying a water heater for their mom, should be pinched because she gave 5 bucks for gas (story told on turbodieselregistry by a DOT retiree where the guy in a 1 ton dodge crossed out of Tx into OK for the heater).

Exactly. Most of those laws are taken from the teamsters union rules.

I would like to know why you all are down on the Teamsters they are the reason you are not still working for $1 a day . Was a Teamster for 45 years have no problem with them . Get a check each month . Have neaver known of them fighting to keep small private trucks off road or being regulated . The actions & mentality of some of the small truck owners have caused some of this mess I know some in this state that hual 6000 or 7000 lb tractors behind 3/4 and 1 ton trucks without brakes. trailers don't even have brakes . State law says that trailers have to have brakes if over 3000 lbs . and some even pull with bumper hitch . I can see Stoping for a safety check I can even see a one time inspestion on towing vechicle with trailer .

I am not against the teamsters or any other labor union. Those unions are the reason that we have what we have today and that is a good thing. I was merely stating the fact that many of the DOT regulations were adopted from the rules set forth by the teamsters union. The drivers log book and hours of service is one of those rules.
