If you like Fords, you'll like it. Had one and it was 10 mpg pulling and 14 mpg empty on longer distances. Got 15.5 once on the interstate. That V10 was a pulling monster that was bullet proof. Motor was the only good thing on the truck I had. Front end was garbage, transmission was junk, auto lock hubs were a joke, electronics were terrible. Got to the point where I refused to start the thing because I knew something would be broken and need repair. Traded it off for a Chevy, and like everything about the Chevy but the lack of power compared to the V10.

I have a 2002 F350 V10, on road pulling empty trailer average abut 11-12 mpg. Loaded trailer with 2 tractors on trailer average about 10mpg. on recent trip hauling 2 Case LA averaged about
9-10 mpg. really depends on that right foot.

I had a 1998 Ford E-350 1 ton van with the V10. Used it to transport people and either a skid steer or mini excavator daily in my business. Ran it up to 230K when I sold business, without any problems. 14-15 mpg not towing 10.5-12 mpg when towing.

I now have a 2001 F250 $X$ crewcab longbed with V10 and 86K. Get 13-14 mpg daily driving, 10-12 mpg towing 7 ton, have gotten as high as 16.3 on over the road trip.

V-10 engine is bullet proof. Before I had any of these trucks, I had a 1994 Dodge supercab dually with the V10. 12-14 mpg.

Go for it, You won't be dissappointed in performance or mileage.

Maybe not 100% accurate, but might check the service records,The 99 V-10 suffered block and head problems. The 2000 was a whole new engine.I have two V-10s(05-06)auto 3.73 axles that will get better MPG towing under 10,000 Lbs.then my 05 6.0 Diesel(6 speed 4.10) will.10+MPG.Over 10,000 the diesel doesn't change much if any.If the engine has been upgraded,It should be a good truck.

Friend of mine said his ford F-250 extended cab 4x4 V-10 only gets 8 to 10 MPG emtpy with no trailer. I'm not sure of the modle year and he never said what he got pulling trailer or loaded.
