Anybody got any experience with an air compressor that was made from a flathead jeep engine? General Supply Co made it. and it appears they are no more. Thanks

There is a place in farmington, mn. that sells willys parts, called willys minneapolis and have seen some of these there in the past. if i remember right thay have a different head than the standard L-134 engine, and possibly the manifold is different. the phone is 651-460-8888
hope this helps.

What are you needing in particular? This type of compressor was discussed a couple months back with a man who wanted to construct one from an automotive engine he had. You might use the archive here as a resource, if it is general information you need.

I'm looking for any information on it. I picked it up today and it is factory built, not jury rigged. I checked everywhere on the web and General Supply Co is long gone. From the date on the tank, it was made in 1962. And heavy. When and,if, I get it running, it will have its own trailer! The guy I got it from said he thought it ought to do lots of CFM for a sand blaster which is what I want to use it for.

Mike, not much help however have spotted a four cylinder engine (factory) with two cylinders as compressor and two for power. This one sets on the back of an old tire service truck. Never checked for make or anything. Maybe one could find out something from some tire store that has a service truck and have been in business for several years. Good luck.

Hi Mike,
There is as Tom says information on building sandblasters out out auto engines posted back on this forum. as I remember one was Ford V8 flathead conversion, with 4 cylinders used for air compression and 4 cylinders as the motor. Also described was one made out of a 4 cylinder model A and another was about how to convert a Toyota. In short the four cylinder types modified the way the valves work and used check valves to control air flow. Good Luck A.Kezar

I would like to find plans that guide in the conversion of a Ford v8 engine to a compressor. Also I would like to communicat with the person working on the Jeep compressor.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll keep searching the net. Maybe someone has an old manual they would copy. I imagine it doesn't idle too well. Seems the regular jeep was down around 450 or so and this one says to idle it at 750 with max air at 2200.

I saw one made with two V-8 flat heads. One was the engine that drove the other, used as an air compressor.
Good Luck,
