For some mysterious reason, both brake warning lights come on while driving-- both the "ABS" and the "Brake".
Odd thing is, my brakes are in good shape---rotors, calipers, etc are all fine---not worn.
The lights will come on and stay on until I shut the truck off, then they may not come on again for the next few days, then, out of the blue, while driving, they"ll come on.
Any ideas?
By the way, this is on an "01 Chev. 1500...

The electronic brake control module can send a signal turning on both the amber abs warning light and the red brake warning light. As mentioned, you need to pull the abs trouble codes to point you in the right direction. It could be a wheel speed sensor problem, a wiring issue, or something else. I am assuming that the abs light goes out at start up after 6-7 seconds passing its self test but then fails when you're driving over 15 mph. You want to get this fixed as even though you still have base brakes, they're not as effective as antilock brakes.

Yeah, I've regarded this as a nuisance kind of thing, hadn't thought that these lights coming on were nothing more than a nuisance, since the brakes work just fine. I hadn't thought that the ABS system might not work in a real emergency because of these lights coming on. Matter of fact, I don't know if the ABS system is even working, since it hasn't been put to use. Thanks for the info.---- I'll get it down to the dealer and have them check it out.

The is a recall on most of those Chevy's because of rust or corrosion where the ABS sensors mount to the wheel bearings.

If the ABS is missing any sensor information, the ABS light will come on, along with the brake warning light, even though the brakes SEEM to be working.

Having that checked out is a good place to start. A scan of the 'puter will confrim, from it's memory, what's causing the warning light to come on.
