Here is a copy of an e mail that I got back from Sears about there warranty.
They answered back in about 4 hours.

Thank you for contacting Sears.

Craftsman Hand Tool

SEARS PRODUCT WARRANTY TO COMPLY WITH FTC RULES EFFECTIVE 12/31/76

Department: 609

Product: Craftsman Hand Tool

Warranty: FULL UNLIMITED WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN HAND TOOL

If this Craftsman Hand Tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction,
RETURN IT TO THE NEAREST SEARS STORE THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES, and
Sears will replace it, free of charge.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other
rights which vary from state to state.

Sears, Roebuck and Co., Dept. 817WA, Hoffman Estates, IL 60179

Unfortunately, we do not have a document that lists the specific
warranties of all Craftsman tools. However, we do have databases that do
list the specific warranties of the tools on an individual basis.

A general list of Craftsman tools that are covered by the lifetime
warranty would include: ratchets, sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers and
hammers. Some tools that are not covered by the lifetime warranty (even
though they are Craftsman branded) are: taps, dies, saw blades, drill bits
and torque wrenches.

The guarantee is not limited to the original owner. Sears does not require
a sales receipt for lifetime guaranteed hand tool.

Thank you for choosing Sears to help you create the good life.

Shop sears.com now to pick up great products for the season.

Seems as though I was under the wrong impression as to what Sears warranty included also. Says right there that owner does not have to be the original purchaser, which I thought it did. Hope I didn't upset anyone too much either. Loren

Went in to sears with needle nose tip broke off ,manager said I abused them.I kept telling him doesnt matter read the warranty[Iwas saying guarantee back then ,whatever].Even other customers were arguimg on my side.Foriegn guys were teling him" Sir dis mon should get new plier dey are Cwaftsman."Finally I left went to a different Sears and got new ones.Since then Ive bought every yard sale ,flea market Craftsman I could find and returned it to sears. Is it morrally wrong .Not the way its written. They are saying the tool owner gets a free replacement if your not satisfied.I remember it from my 1976 catalog with Pres Ford signing The Metric Conversion Act of 1976.{which didnt really work too well]

Well, sometimes I step out and take a stand only to find out later that I'm wrong, this seems to be one of those times. Sunday there was a post about guys buying broken tools at flea markets and expecting the warranties to be honored. I took the stand that it was wrong. After reading the warranty offered by Sears, it seems as though I was wrong in my stance. To the gentlemen that I blasted on that post, I appologize.

Hey... I read that post and admire your willingness to "fess up," but I do not believe that you wre wrong and really am not sure why you are apologising. In any case, the fact that Sears takes this leap of faith with its tools is the VERY REASON that I continue to buy them. Craftsman are not the best tools out there, but they are not gonna let me down should they fail. Any tool can break. But with Craftsman (and a Sears not far from me) I can't lose. They will continue to have my business.

I all so figured the warranty was only good to the original purchaser.
I have only taken back one ratchet years ago and had no trouble but the replacement was only half as good.
As far as life time warranties go I figure if my truck brakes down at 3am when it is thirty below zero and I have to walk 10 miles to get home because a tool broke I am not going to be smiling on the way home thinking how lucky I am that the tool will be replaced.
I have seen Chinese tools with life time warranties all so, just send it back postage paid to the manufacture and they will fix or replace it.
I once bought a set of $4.95 headphones at radio shack and the guy behind the counter was able to stand there with a straight face and ask me if I would like to buy an extended warranty for only $19.95. I figured he must be used to dealing with people that are a sleep or in a real hurry.

Always remember: A lifetime warantee means the lifetime of the manufacturer, not your lifetime.
Craftsman has a pretty good record in that respect. The majority of my replacement or additional tools are now Craftsman. I may be a tad luckier than most. The local Sears is a little closer that the hardware store

Radio Shack's slogan: "You've got questions...We've got answers".

What it should be: "You've got questions...We've got problems".

Yes Radio shack has answers all right… Just not the right ones.
I have been in electronics for over 25 years and I just love it when they try to fake there way thought.
I worked part time at a radio shack when I lived in NH and our assistant manager’s previous job was in a drug store. In the store where I worked I was the only one that had ever worked in electronic or had any education in the field.

I work in electronics and the two Radio Shack slogans we normally quote are:

"Realistic -- Almost Like Real!"

"If you can't make it real, make it Realistic!"
