I called Tractor supply yesterday and the guy has an "Englander" pellet stove for $1,250. They sell the pellets too at $3.75/bag, that is the pallet load discount. I am still going to shop around and keep looking on the web. For the guys here that have a pellet stove how hot does the flue pipe get? Thanks for all the previous responses.

We have a Whitfield "traditions" pellet stove. We're in our 4th season. I ususlly burn Lignetics or Marth brands. have tried 10+others available here. some burn ok but alot of ash. some get alot of clinkers (plugs things up/snuffs out fire), some burn ok but are "sticky" and don't flow in the hopper and starve the stove (TSC brand). TSC is usally high and went up $0.75 recently. They had good deals a while back for <$3 on sale (by the ton). I burn about 25%+/- corn with mine corn is nearly 1/2 the cost of pellets. higher than 30% and the corn klinkers up too bad. of course the owners manual says nothing but pellets should be used..I've not tried cherry pits as they are too high $ at TSC. We would have gone straight corn but didn't like the stove styles and didn't have automatic ignition at the time (VERY nice feature, especially if on thermostat). Would have looked at furnace/boiler instead but didn't have room. Lowes has good deals on left over pellets late in spring if you don't mind storing them. GOod luck.

Check out A-Maiz-ing Heat thru your search engine. Its a corn or pellet furnace, UL listed. also have a boiler powered by corn or pellets. If you live in the corn belt, corn is cheaper than the 3.75/bushel pellets you looked at. LOL My two cents worth

are you looking at a pellet stove or a pellet furnace. I have a pellet furnace in my house and it worked great, I fabricated a hopper extension so it would hold about 10 bags at a time, so the wife wouldn"t have to fill it when I was on the road. It was controlled by a wall thermostat upstairs, it would run for 2 minutes every 10 to keep the fire going. Search under BIOMASS furnaces and see if you can find any info, I used KHOURY brand pellets made in Iron Mountain MI real nice pellets no bark all harwood (mostly aspen) but they worked great, stay away from the ones with bark and crud in they -- too many clinkers

I was in the Home Depot last night. They have 2 different sizes of the Englander pellet stove on sale. The small one was $660.00 the large was $ 850.00 Do you have a Depot near you ?? Might be worth checking out. They have them on sale as a seasonal closeout. Once their gone their gone.

Real hot. In fact the whole stove gets so hot you can't stand near it. People with kids often build "fences" around them for this reason.

BTW, for that kind of money you aren't going to be happy. A decent one costs upwards of $1,800. Be sure to get all the features you want.

$3.75/bag is BS. Try Menards.

When you say $3.75 is BS do you mean that price is too high or too low.

In my town in northeast Ohio Tractor supply is always high on everything! The only reason they survive is because of location and people go there out of pure neccesity. If you have the time to shop around I am certain you will find a better deal on the stove and the pellets.

I use Pennywise pellets, less than .5% ash, I pay $165 for 2,400 lb which is a pallet load. That's about $140/ton if my math is right. I have to haul them.
