Massey Ferguson 135 Out of Diesel Restart

I ran my (great running) MF 135 Perkins Diesel AD3 152 engine out of fuel. It will not restart. I assume there is air in the fuel lines. How do I pump fuel to clear them and get it restarted?

While your at it, you might as well change the filters and clean the filter bowls out. If you have run her out of diesel altogether any crud in the tank will have found its way to the fuel filters.

RS,It has been 30years since I worked on a 135 but I am thinking there is a paddle on the lift pump and you work it up and down to purge the air. You`ll have better luck if you loosen the fuel lines at the injecters first and pump till your arm falls off or the air stops bubbling out.I`ll tell a story on myself, last Sat. I pulled a 245 IH (import)over a mile after it ran out of fuel and it wouldn`t start. I bled the fuel lines and it started in 3ft. Good luck KJM

Not forgetting to loosen those 2 tiny little bleed screws on on the injector pump. Pump the lift pump till it stops "fizzing" like soda pop out of those bleed screws. Tighten them up again, Loosen one of the injector lines and spin her over using the starter and it should splutter into life. If all else fails get a buddy to squirt A LITTLE ( and I mean little we don't want any busted crankshafts! )starting fluid into the air intake WHILST the engine is turning over. That often does the trick.

Following after Roy,

You may need to get pft pft at 2 injectors before the engine will hit and hold. When she acts like she wants it, just keep pumping the juice to the starter. You're building heat in the combustion chamber and what little fuel you're getting in there will have a better chance of igniting.

Then, when she's running on her own, walk back and forth down the injectors purging all several times.

If you do change filters, only open one bleed screw at a time. Do the one nearest the pump then when full, close and do the other. As stated, you will pump your fingers off getting them full. Be sure to push the pumping lever back against the block when finished (not out toward you).
