Does anyone need a 5-53 out of a 1900? I also have the air cleaners, radiator, everything from the engine forward as the frame is also there but broke. It is partially stuck. What is one like this worth?

In two & four valve heads the N45 is the largest natural aspirated injector.....except the N50's allowed in 4 valve Fire Trucks etc. A 4-53 would be stretched to make 100HP at 1800 rpm with N50's. As rpm increases so does internal windage plus friction losses. Add to that the reduction of volumetric efficiency. At 2800 rpm it might make 140HP with a tail wind. The 4-53T with 5A60 injectors was rated 170HP@2500rpm. This engine has the airflow to burn the fuel.Biggest injectors used in a turbo 53 series are 70's. Can't find a HP rating however. So going to N50 injectors starts to put some extra uburned fuel out the stack along with a little mpre HP out. N60's will about peak the engine with a couple more HP and beginning to make thick black smoke.Don't go any bigger. I have N80's in a N21 to 1 compression 2-53 with a four valve head we cut down to fit.Has the high lift long duration cam too. The N80's gain no power unless nitrous oxide injection is added. I've backed the fuel rack adjustment off my mine to about 2/3 travel. Going farther looses power and makes lots more smoke.

i do know guys with 4-53 21:1 with 4 valve heads tat run N55"s at 3200 rpm. my dad used to work on them alot and i was woundering if N60"s would work but then again i think i might keep my N55"s less smoke. it doesnt smoke no so why make it?.

Years ago i had a boy in school and they had a 435. His uncle worked for Detroit Diesel and he changed it to a higher horse power version N series engine. They farmed with and I think it was around 45 or50 horse if I remember correctly. There big problem, keeping a clutch in it.

They must have used the tractor on smooth running pto loads and didn't lug it in 1st or 2nd gear. Likely wasn't ballasted which allowed slippage of tires before breakage of parts. Otherwise the pto cluster gears would have shattered and busted the casting cover. Or the ring and pinion would have been wiped out too. The rods must have been changed to the piston spray cooling units used on 40 injectors and larger. Otherwise the pistons/sleeves would have scored from heat. The higher output 53's had a coolant to oil heat exchanger to keep oil temps reasonable.

I am sure the first part is true, PTO loads around here would be light. They milked cows. There are even a few larger tractors around here that were ordered without a PTO.
