a friend has a Stover CT-2, ser # 2024xx for sale. it has a Gray Iron Foundry cememnt mixer mounted on a cart and the engine is mounted next to it under a metal enclosure. the engine has a repaired exhaust rocker arm and the corner of the head nearest the magneto has had a crack about 3" long repaired. the magneto is there and looks in good shape, but probably needs to be cleaned. the engine turns over easily and has always been covered in the metal enclosure and under a tarp. he wants to sell it and i'd like to make him a fair offer. i really don't need a cement mixer, but if $300 or so was a reasonable offer for it, i'd probably buy it. i have no idea what everything would be worth. anyone have any estimates? also, are used uncracked heads available anywhere?

thanks,

andy b.

Andy,

I have a gilson concrete mixer with a 2 1/2 hp stover , that machine will wear out 2 men a day to feed it. It's a 1/2 bag drum and it will have the batch mixed by the time you all of the materials shoveled in. I have no idea what it's worth . I do some cast iron weld , if you don't find a head , I can most likely weld it with oxy/acet cast iron weld ( not arc weld ). I did another brand one cylinder head last winter that had 2 pieces pushed out and completely loose from a case of hard water (ice ). Below is a link to some cast repair .

My rule of thumb is, almost any running engine with a mag is worth about $500. Look what you pay for the Wico EK mags alone. If you just want the engine, why not buy the whole thing, keep the engine for yourself and sell the mixer. I'm sure someone would be able to mount a different type motor on for use. A head with no repairs can probably be found, but you may have to look around. If you can get the whole thing for $300, that doesn't sound like a bad deal.

Bill,

thanks for the reply. this engine isn"t running, but i"d say it wouldn"t be too much work to get it going (just time). i found rocker arms for about $40, so that is an easy fix. i think i"ll see if he wants $500 for the whole thing. if you say running engines go for that much, then that probably isn"t a bad starting point for what he has.

thanks,
andy b.
