A friend of mine was given an old gasoline powered compressor made by Schramm of West Chester, Pa. I found a web page for a company that makes drilling rigs.

This compressor has two cylinders and weighs about 1200 pounds. Ever heard of such a beast? It's a basket case right now. Needs a magneto, and exhaust manifold at the least.

I've been restoring one of these monsters on and off for the last five years. Mine is circa 1925 and has a piston that is 7 1/4" in diameter with a 10" throw on the engine side and the same diameter on the compressor piston but with a shorter throw. Schramm also made a smaller version of the same machine. The exhaust was damaged, so I made a new one from scratch. I made a flange to match the outlet on the machine and then welded a 3" steamfitters' 45 degree butt weld bevel fitting to it and then a straight piece to that so that the exhaust shoots down like the original. It takes a Wico PR magneto to provide the spark. Hope this helps...Joe.

Schramm made air compressors for many years, I think up thru the 1980's. Schramm based their compressors on current engines, such as IH, Wisconsin, etc. Half the cylinders were used for the air compressor, while the other half provided power. Lena's Warehouse in Ft. Worth, TX (817-370-2039) has manuals and parts. Frank McBride, a former Schramm employee, runs the place.
