Looking for information on an Associated Air Cooled hit or miss engine. Have found information on Associated engines but most seem to have been water cooled.

Anyone have information on how many and when they were produced.

Have had it running but needs a lot of restoration.

Thanks for any help.

From the book AMERICAN GASOLINE ENGINES SINCE 1872 It lists three air cooled engines by Associated mfg co The chore boy 1 3/4 hp of 1913 and the busy boy 1 1/2 hp of 1912. Also was the 3/4 hp colt of the 1920's, this was unsucessful and the model was junked. No production numbers.

I have a 3/4 H.P. Associated colt. It is in excellent condition, 100% complete, it runs very good. It is a 4 cycle air cooled engine with screen shroud around the flywheel, original muffler no rust, has seen very little running, probably because of the two chokes in the carburetor. if not synchronized right it was very hard to start. once synchronized the shaft was soldered. being experimental i`m assuming a lot of them didn`t get synched right. Mine also has a hand lever start.

Jon

Thanks much for the information. I believe this engine is the "Chore Boy" but may be the "Busy Boy".

Is there any other specific information on these engines.

Also, could you post more information on the book you are referencing such as publisher or ISBN number.

Thanks again for your help.

The chore boy has a 3 3/4 X 5 boreX stroke.
The busy boy has a 3 5/8 X3 1/2 bore X stroke.
The book is by C.H. Wendel .

This edition first published in 1994 in the Crestline series by Motorbooks International publishers& wholesalers PO box 2, 729 Prospect avenue,Osceola,WI 54020 USA.
The book has 4 pages with quite a lot of information and history about Associated. The company was started in Waterloo Iowa in 1896, and started selling gasoline engines in 1909. Hope this helps. JH
