I will be getting new rings made for a 7" diameter piston and the machine shop suggested using brass. I think the originals were cast iron so I don't know if there is a benefit to using brass or should I just stick with original metal?

Most rings that I've seen were cast. It's a lot easier to work with brass and that's probably why the machine shop suggested it. I think I'd pass on brass. In Gas Engine magazine a company called Starbolt Engine Supplies 3403 Buckeystown Pike Adamstown, Md. 21710 Phone 301-874-2821 or e-mail starbolt4u@aol.com I've never done business with them but I'd think it would be worth a call or e-mail to see what they have.
