I was wondering if someone could help me out with a description or a diagram on how to hook and and run an engine with a battery and coil. What coils work best and whats the best battery to use? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the great site on the subject. I was wondering what type of battery to use, my great grandfather always used dry cell batteries. What else would work to run an engine?

I have seen old engine folks use anything from 6 or 12-Volt lead-acid car batteries, to ni-cad packs for power tools, to gel-cells.

If you are using an old original buzz coil, or low-tension coil, 12-Volts may be a bit much for it, though folks do use 12-Volts, and seem to get by with it, but I'm sure buzz coil point life, or ignitor point life would be reduced, as well as the coils will likely heat up more than normal.
