the crossbrace over the bellhousing is indeed part of the body. it is acrually one of two beams running side to side the whole width of the cab it also provides the mounting points for the cab to the chassis. the problem you are searching for lies below the bellhousing in the two bolts that attatch the bellhousing to the rear crossmember. if you take a closer look there should be rubber blocks between the bellhousing and crossmember removing these will most likely require excessive force (prybar hammer etc.) use whatever works best for you. removing these blocks should provide the clearance nessicary to remove the motor. another possibility is that the transmission needs to be removed this depends on how much room there is up front, another possibility is that the front cab mounts may have to be removed and the front of the cab jacked up to provide the clearance needed. When removing my motor the entire front clip was removed as was the transmission this made it fairly easy.

now it is your turn to help me...
i have completely removed my body from the chassis and substituted it with a chassis from a 1979 ford f-100 with a 300cubic inch inline six, 3 speed transmission and power steering. I have been at this project for quite some time and have found great difficulty in finding certain things due to the rarity of these vehicles. it would be a great help if you could e mail me some information on where i could get weather stripping, and a windshield, also can the modern day international truck dealers provide me with any parts/information
-if you have any more questions email them to me and i could possibly help you on your way to a beautifully restored truck THANK YOU

It has been several years since I pulled the engine in my S-110 but I remember having to loosen the body mounts and jack the body up a little. I pulled the transmission separately I believe.
Good Luck

Curt
I had to think about what your trying to do best i remember best way to get them out is to pull the engine and then take the trans. out.
If your having trouble getting eng.and trans. seperated the pilot bearing could be your problem just unbolt the clutch Assm. and leave hanging on input shaft.
If your still having problems feel free to call me at my office Avilla Motor Works Inc.

One thought I have is to take the transmission loose from the motor and get one thing out at a time. The second thought I have is to see if you can somehow find a shop manual for the truck as I imagine it would come in quite handy more times than once. Is it possible you need to take the floor pan around the transmission out so you can unbolt the motor from that frame piece?
