Torque amplifiers in both tractors were replaced by dealership several years ago. The 806 lasted about 6 mo, the 1086 quit working after 1 mo. The cost for replacement was about $3000 each. Both tractors work of in "high range" and will not engage at all in "low". I would like to repair both tractors but don't want to spend this much with such poor results. Does anyone have any ideas? (Both tractors are still worked hard and often)

This may be way off the beaten path, but it might be possible that the TA's in those tractors need adjusting. Many years ago when I was working in the business, I saw more than a couple of IH's that "needed" the TA replaced because it wasn't working. I made a few customers happy when I got out the IT Manual and pulled off some cowlings and adjusted out the linkages. You may also want to ensure that the filters are clean and the main control valve body is clean and set up properly. This sometimes has caused the TA not to work. Also have (through experience) installed the incorrect gasket for the control body and it blocked / limited the fluid flow. I am not an expert by any means, but this may be something to check into if you haven't done so yet.

If they don't drive on the low side, there is a problem with the sprag or diode, depending on which style was used. That is so, whether or not there also may be a hydraulic/clutch pack problem. Sprag or diode failure should have been covered under parts warranty at 6 months, whether CaseIH or HyCapacity. If you weren't in touch with the installing dealer immediatly at the time of failure, that is when the money was wasted. Figure similar costs now at most shop rates. Get the MCV pump and circuits tested BEFORE teardown.

You state 'dealership', don't they back their repair work? For $3K, the TA should go longer than a month, or six. Unless you have underpaid,
angry operators, the quality of the garage labor
arises. My complaint is the 'global' economy, as
newer equipment has electronics, such as microswitches. The dealer tech is $55.hr, he puts
in microswitches from China, charging $5 to $10
each, some work once, others annoy you for months,
no quality control in China. Cheap parts may be
the TA problem, did the dealer comment on failure?
Someone has a responsibility, $3K more into 806???

The local IH / Case dealer closed up shop. The ag community around here is dying and he couldn'r stay in business. We had the work done in another county (never again, thats why I'm asking for help here). The operators are my Dad and myself. I forgot to mention the 3k included a new clutch also. (first one since it was bought in '66). I guess what I was hoping for was info on where someone else gets parts.
