This tractor belongs to my nieghbor and niether of us are familiar with "positive" ground 6v systems. It will pull of and run but won't hit a lick otherwise. We cleaned the switch that's bolted to the starter thinking there may be some corrosion but that didn't help at all. There's not even a "clicking" noise at the starter when the switch is engaged. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a heap,
D. Henshaw

For 6 volt systems, the battery cables have to be at least 0 size, I prefer O/0 (double ought).. If you got the skinny 6 guage cables off the wifes Mazda, you aren't going to be turning it over. Also make sure the area the ground wire is connected to the chassis is wired brushed to make good contact...check other ground areas... Then again, maybe your starter is just junk..

Take jumper cables and connect one side to ground and with the other by-pass the switch.

Take it apart or what ever to get past the switch.
If it doesn't turn over you might manually turn it over to clean the brushes off a little or find a better spot on the (armature/commutator) (spelling?)
