1972 Cub Cadet 129 repair question

The hydrostatic transmission on my '72 Cub Cadet 129 is not working properly. Sometimes it wants to go, other times it just sits still. The fluid is full. I really don't know that much about mechanics, I'd like to try to fix it myself, but don't want to go buy a new pump if it is not necessary. If I can't fix it, I at least want to be more knowledgeable when talking with someone who can.

I live in Crossville, TN. Does anyone know a good trustworthy mechanic in the area?

I appreciate any help.

hi,
um i have a 76' 129 hydrostatic and i think i know what the problem is. does it only not want to move when you first start it? because thats what mine does. and there is nothing wrong with that. the reason it does that is because the oil has to heat up fir a minute or two before it wants to go otherwise when you let it wideopen and full throttle it wont hardly move. i don't know if thats the case but if it is thats the problem. just let it idle on low for about a minute or two when you first start before you ry to move it.

u need to look under the plate in the center of the tractor, take that plate of, youll see two little buttons,,,make sure there up. if they are not up, the tractor will not go.

I have the same tractor and have had the same problem. It sounds like the hydrostatic relief valves that are located under the 1 bolt cover pannel thats under the seat. There are 2 large bolts with little buttons in the center of them. When these buttons are mashed down, your tractor is in the push mode. When they are up, your transmission is engaged. You may want to put a drop or two of 3 in 1 oil on the buttons and gently work them up with a pair of vise grips. Just be careful not to scar the buttons.
