Is there any additive that will effectively clean valves, even temporarily? I have low compression in one cylinder and suspect a valve leaking on an 8N Ford. Is there anything I can do short of pulling off the head??
Thanks

I agree with sportster, do a leakdown test and find out what your problem really is BEFORE you start fixing things that arent broken.

Hey Doug,Try this site ,sorry but I dont know how to make it so you can just click on it.Its about how to make a homemade leakdown tester. Some guys with compressors probably have alot of the fittings just laying around.Good luck. Here it is: Link If that doesnt work google leakdown testers.PS you need an air compressor for the air presure and a way to keep the motor from turning over:like a breaker bar on the crank pulley. This will tell you if its an intake or exhaust valve also.

Theres a number of ways/methods to do that. MMO or tranny fluid in the gas helps. Carb cleaner sprayed in to the intake of the carb with the engine running. A mist of water sprayed in to the intake will also do the job. Each has its good points and its bad points. The one that works best is the one you would think is the worse one to use, but the water mist does a very very good job and will not foul out the plugs like MMO or tranny fluid can do. But the water mist also cleans out any of the carbon built up any place in thah area of the engine. As in the top of the pistons, valves and the head. Just don't spray it in to fast and yes the engine has to be running when you do it

I have heard that mystery marvel oil in the gas is good for that. Maybe someone else on here can confirm that. Mike.
